Why your loved ones NEED Roam Like Home when they #travel #RoamOn #100Days100Destinations @rogers

Travelling can be fun, rewarding, enriching and enlightening. Staying home while your significant other travels can be frustrating, concerning and sometimes nerve wracking; especially if you don’t know how they’re doing, haven’t heard from them and have young kids who miss their parent or loved one.

It’s relatively easy to keep in touch when travelling across Canada. I can call/text the kids, send them pictures and videos from my travels and stay in touch. It wasn’t until my husband had to recently travel that I fully appreciated what it’s like when the shoe is on the other foot or the spouse is in the other side of the world.

A few months back he had to go *roll eyes* to Europe, for work. While I was happy that he got to travel, I wasn’t thrilled about having the kids keep asking me when he’d be back, how much longer he’d be gone, if they could speak to him before bed and so on. Several years ago, having Daddy go to Europe for work used to mean that they may get to video chat with him once or twice while he was away. Things have changed completely. This is the first trip where my husband went away but the kids got to speak and text him most of the time (as much as his schedule and ours permitted of course).

Thankfully it cost us less than a family dinner out to keep in touch with Roam Like Home. Typically speaking it’s $5 a day in North America to use your phone just as you would at home (that means for calls/texts/data). In Europe, it’s $10 a day. For the peace of mind that it brought my family and I to be able to know where our loved one is, it was barely a drop in the bucket. It also helped him out just as much to know that he could stay connected with us, check in on us or speak to me while having supper by himself somewhere in London. I know. I know. The poor unfortunate soul.

Times have changed and I am thankful that the phone company we have trusted for the past almost 20 years (DON’T JUDGE….no, YOU’re old!) is still evolving to meet our needs.

A few weeks ago, my husband was in Dominican Republic on “business” *eye roll*. If you’re wondering about my level of excitement here. You’ll have to understand that while I know he was working hard, it’s a little hard to feel bad for the guy when he’s sipping virgin pina coladas on the beach and typing away on his laptop while his feet soak in the ocean. The struggle is clearly REAL my friends.

Anyhow. It’s true what they say that absence does make the heart grow fonder. So does keeping in touch while you’re physically apart….drinking pina coladas on the beach.

  2. T-Mobile is pretty awesome, they have completely free texts in most countries. I don’t think they do data, though, which I totally need!! So cool to hear about this, that rate isn’t bad at all!

  3. I love Roam Like Home. My daughter used it when she went to Europe for 3 weeks in the summer. It was great to hear from her daily and know that she was ok.
