Bathroom Tissue and Breast Cancer
Every so often I come across a company, or a product that really catches my eye. Sometimes it’s because something is exceptionally well made, or because they understand how to treat a customer. Fashion line Al Shakour is one such company. They are creating gorgeous hand crafted, limited edition clothes for everyday women. I also love that they care about giving back to the community. This CanadianMomEh shout-out goes to Al Shakour’s Creative Lead, local Montreal designer Suhaila Niazi.
I was first introduced to Al Shakour last year online and was captivated by the lustrous designs and rich fabrics. A few months later I saw an Al Shakour booth at a major healthcare facility. I watched people flock to the tables, equally captivated as I, to the satiny scarfs and luxurious wraps.
The company launched in 2011 when Suhaila Niazi and Razi Khan joined their talent and skill sets to create a fashion line that is custom built around their customers. They only create two to three of any given design; making them exclusive and sought-after. Their limited edition designs are custom made to fit any size.
“I believe every single person is a model for something,” says the Montreal native and creative fashionista.
The name Al Shakour means to give thanks. Niazi and Khan believe in fashion with a charitable twist. They donate 2.5% of their sales to a different charity each year.
CanadianMomEh is not the only one intrigued by Niazi and her talent. The 39-year-old was approached in 2011 by none other than designer Luko Marion to design a dress for the Cashmere bathroom tissue dress competition. This year, she was invited back to take part.
This competition is unique as it selects top designers from across Canada to compete in designing a dress made entirely of bathroom tissue using a limited edition pink tissue along with a standard white.
I love Canadian product lines running Canadian competitions while featuring Canadian designers. What’s even better is for every vote, $1 will be given to the Canadian Breast Cancer foundation. You can show support this great cause by voting here, but hurry the contest ends TODAY at midnight.
